Ilayaraja was born in Pannaipuram, presently in the Theni district, Tamil Nadu, India on 2nd June 1943. He was also one of those earliest Indian film composers to utilize western classical music harmonies and string arrangements in Tamil film music. Ilayaraja is popular in the music industry for his skills to integrate Indian classical folk music and traditional Indian instrumentation along with western classical music techniques. He contributes his voice in varied regional language songs, but predominantly in the Tamil language.
